Explain Boolean Operators.
A search criterion in this workspace includes:
- An index abbreviation
- Followed by one of these symbols: =, <, or >
- A term appropriate to the index selected (for a list of terms appropriate
to each index, refer to the Search
Fields Chart).
- A Boolean operator (and, or, andnot) if you're combining
more than one search term.
When all search criteria are entered, click the SEARCH
button and you'll arrive at the Search
Results screen, which lists all titles that match your criteria.
Search
Examples:
If your search criterion contains a comma, apostrophe, or wildcard
symbol (?, $ or *), or includes the words and,
or,
or not,
use quotation marks around the search criterion. If your search criterion contains
the word and, use an ampersand. For example:
ti="to
have & have not"
ti="Are
you there God? It's me, Margaret"
pe="peter
o'toole" and aw=golden globe
Some
other examples:
su=charles
dickens andnot kw=christmas
will return titles by Charles Dickens
that don't have the keyword "Christmas" in the record.
au=tom
clancy and py=1998 will return titles
by Tom Clancy published in 1998.
