Lists
What is
a list?
Booksinprint.com
allows users to save title information or a list of search results in a List.
Lists can be public (that is, viewable by anyone who has access to the
user's account) or password protected (viewable only by the user who
created the list).
Lists can be added to and revised.
Lists can be downloaded to programs that accept ASCII data (such as a spreadsheet
in which you're working out your collection development budget).
Lists can be e-mailed (for example, you can e-mail your recommendations for
titles that should be purchased for the library or e-mail a list of recommended
reading to a patron or customer).
Lists expire (that is, disappear from the system) 6 months after creation
(but you can change the expiration date to keep a list from disappearing).
How are
lists used?
By
librarians:
- Create customized bibliographies for patrons — then print, e-mail or download
the list.
- Create lists of titles to acquire for collection development purposes --
the e-mail, print or download the list.
- Faculty patrons can create lists of titles they believe the library should
have.
- Faculty patron can create "suggested reading" lists for students.
- Student patrons and researchers can create comprehensive bibliographies.
By
booksellers:
- Create "buy lists" for patrons. For example, if a patron liked a book by
a particular author, the bookseller can create a list of that author's other
titles (or audiobooks or videos of that author's works).
- Use this feature to help patrons with gift selections. For example, if a
customer knows that a person likes books on the Kennedy assassination, a bookseller
can create a list of all books on that topic and the customer can select titles
to purchase — or include the list with a bookseller's gift certificate.
- When helping customers select titles for special orders, put potential purchases
in a list for that customer.
- Create lists of titles to purchase from each publisher, distributor or wholesaler.
By
publishers:
- Research subjects that are hot
- See how many titles on a subject are coming out in the next month, two months,
quarter, etc.
